On Parties and Followers

Chapter 14

On parties

11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

One of my friend inspired me with this line, “If you are down,  feel blessed because there is no more way for you but to go up.”  Indeed, humility is so hard to have when you feel so high above anyone else. I remember one of my Life Group sister relaid God’s message for me, saying, “Ram, you don’t have to exert any effort to be with me here on top, just fix your eyes with me and I will lift you up.”  I believe God is just telling me that I must keep myself footed on the ground, keeping my eyes focus on Him who is greatly exalted for the time will come I will be where He is basking in His glory.

13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Not all the things that we do will be paid off, sounds unfair, but God’s message is clear that all the things that we do for His people will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous. Being an eldest, most of the things that I have given my brothers and the sacrifices I did for them are never paid off, but still I’m doing it because I love them. How about those unlovable? or those who haven’t even felt love? What can I do for them? What can I sacrifice for them? I believe it is God’s call for me to decide; all I have to do now is to be on guard that when the time comes God will call me, I will answer immediately.

“Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

I love being in parties; and I also love to go to feasts especially in the provinces. And now Jesus gives me something to desire, a feast in His Kingdom. I do not know what food will Jesus prepare for me there, but I am sure it is more than what my taste buds can desire. I will on that day when Jesus will dine with me in His Kingdom, and for me that will be more than a party but a festival.

On following Jesus

27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

What does Jesus means by carrying the cross? For me, Jesus is saying that all of us will have to carry personal burdens in obedience to His call, there will be people whom we will leave behind, people who will help us others would hurt us. If we can carry those burdens then we will be able to share His glorious riches too. Jesus didn’t die in carrying His cross, He didn’t die when people mocked Him and persecuted Him, Jesus didn’t die when He leave His mother and brothers, Jesus didn’t die when His disciples denied Him. He died to fulfill His mission. He actually didn’t die, He was raised to life. As I say that I am a Christian, I didn’t say that my life will be perfect and easy, I know life with Christ is hard but I know it will always be worth it.
