A personal reflection on Psalm 50
God is indescribable, but the Psalmist was able to give tiny pieces/ definitions of how great our God is, he says: He is the Mighty One, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth, commands the sun, perfect in beauty, shines forth, will never be silent, a fire devours before Him, around Him a tempest rages, speaks and summons the heavens, righteous, and a judge.
Those descriptions will never be enough to described an indescribable God. More than knowing and trying to grasp God, it is the feeling of personal encounter with Him that makes Him more praiseworthy day by day.
More than a million adjective that can be used to describe Him, it is this line that did captivates me, He says, “I am God, your God.” –Psalm 50:7
I don’t need to find the best description of Him any more for I know I can’t contain His greatness into one word but being a God is enough more so saying that He is my God. This is just amazing for me to know! He is my God – nothing more and nothing less.
There are people in this world that we see or treat like gods – we see them like they are in pedestals looking down to us, we treat them specially as if they don’t have their own hands, we call them Very Important Person, we exert efforts just to please them, and we even sacrifice for them.
How about God? How do we treat Him? Do we treat Him like a VIP? He said that He is our God, so it is just rightful to exert an effort to please Him and to sacrifice for Him.
“Your sacrifices are ever before me.” –
God never fails to be pleased with our sacrifices, if other people cannot or do not appreciate the things that we do for them. God is indeed different, indescribable. God said that He is pleased with us and with the things that we do for Him. He loves our sacrifices and more than that He promises deliverance and salvation that no person in this world can ever offer.
4 “Sacrifice thank offerings to God,
fulfill your vows to the Most High,
15 and call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.
23 Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me,
and to the blameless I will show my salvation.”
– Psalm 50
