Like a Prophet

A personal reflection on Psalm 68

I really admired King David for he really knows a big part of God, indeed, he’s  a man after God’s heart. In reading Psalms, King David was able to describe God, I think, in more than a thousand different ways. In this Psalm, David described the indescribable God as the  5 Father to the fatherless, 9 Gives abundantly and refreshes the weary, 19 Bears our burdens, 20 God who saves,  33 rides the ancient skies and thunders with mighty voice, 34 whose power is in the skies, 35 awesome; gives power and strength to His people.

Isn’t that amazing? David, a human yet knows a lot about God. My personal prayer is that me too can be like him, to search for God, follow Him, delight on His words, worship Him day and night, and be after His heart that I may be able to know Him more and be able to describe Him in my own little words like David.

One of the well-known stories in the Bible is about the famous young lad who knocked down the giant Goliath, who then becomes a King thereafter. David was just a shepherd boy turned great King, yet upon reading this Psalm, I saw something that made me say that  King David is like a prophet for he knows that Jesus is coming.

“7-8 When you, God, went out before your people, the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain,” 20 Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.”

Isn’t this the same thing that happened the moment when Jesus died? Indeed, all the things written in the Bible points out to its real message – a savior has come to reunite God and mankind.

A shepherd, a warrior, a King, a man after God’s heart, truly an amazing man – David. He’s almost perfect, but we all know that even though he draw near to God still He had sin and fall short but David’s sins didn’t hindered him to come boldly to God. He chose to to face and worship God despite his failures.

My prayer is that as I draw near to God may I always come boldly to Him despite my flaws and circumstances like King David that I may know Him more and grasp even the tiny itsy bitsy piece of His greatness, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
